Rotary International, or "RI", was established in Chicago, Illinois, on February 23, 1905.  The founder was Paul Harris, an attorney.  On that date, Paul met with three friends - Silvester Schiele, a coal dealer; Gustavus E. Loehr, a mining engineer; and Hiram E. Shorey, a merchant tailor.  Paul's idea was to promote fellowship among business acquaintances.  Because the men met in rotation at each other's place of business, their club took the name of Rotary.  To make the club representative of the community, only one representative of each business or profession was admitted.  This was the beginning of the classification system.
     While the original basis of Rotary was fellowship, service to others soon became its hallmark.  Each club determines its own service activities which channels through the  four "Avenues of Service" - Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service and International Service.  The avenues are based on the four-part "Object of Rotary".

The Object of Rotary
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all usefull occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life; FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Rotary Structure
 The Four Seasons Rotary Club is a part of Zone 33 of District 7670. This district consists of approximately the western third of North Carolina. The District is part of Rotary International, headquartered near Chicago, Illinois. There are approximately 1.5 million Rotarians, in over 32,000 local clubs, in 160 plus countries around the world.

1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Four Seasons Rotary Club, was founded in April of 1980, by Henry G. Hutton, a member and Past-President of the Hendersonville Rotary Club.  The club was organized with 26 charter members.  Two of those are still in our club today, namely Samuel Williams and William Killian.  The club membership currently includes 11 Paul Harris Fellows and two spouses who are Paul Harris Fellows.  100% of the club members are sustaining Paul Harris Fellows.
